Despite Joe Biden’s vow to “shut down the virus” during the 2020 campaign, the Omicron-variant of COVID-19 continued to spread across the United States this week with officials confirming more than one million cases on January 3rd.

“Since the start of the pandemic, the U.S. has reported more than 56 million confirmed cases and 827,748 deaths,” reports Fox News. “Bloomberg News, citing data from the university as well as its own, reported Tuesday that the number of daily cases is almost double the previous record set last week.”

“It is also more than twice the case count seen anywhere else at any time since the pandemic began more than two years ago. The highest number outside the U.S. came during India’s delta surge, when more than 414,000 people were diagnosed on May 7, 2021,” the outlet said.

To date, more than 56 million Americans have been diagnosed with the disease, causing at least 826,000 deaths in all 50 states.
