President Biden addressed the nation Thursday after Justice Stephen Breyer officially announced his resignation from the Supreme Court; saying he will make-good on his campaign promise and nominate the “First Black Woman” as his replacement.
“Our process is going to be rigorous. I will select a nominee worthy of Justice Breyer’s legacy of excellence and decency. While I’ve been studying candidates’ backgrounds and writings, I’ve made no decision except one: the person I will nominate will be someone with extraordinary qualifications, character, experience and integrity. And that person will be the first Black woman ever nominated to the United States Supreme Court,” Biden said.
“It’s long overdue, in my opinion,” the President added.
Joe Biden announces he will not consider any person for Supreme Court unless she’s a black woman. This means he isn’t considering 94% of the American population for this job. It also means he’s doing a tremendous disservice to his eventual nominee. pic.twitter.com/4ql23Zmu4c
