On Monday, The City Council of Washington D.C. passed a law making illegal immigrants and other non-citizens officially allowed to vote in local elections. Washington D.C. city council is run by Democrat’s and they think having illegals and even foreign diplomats allowed to vote is a good idea.
The Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act was passed by the City Council and Republicans were trying to block the bill from taking effect (during the 30-day congressional review period as mandated by law) but Democrats in the Senate refused to take any action and let the ticking clock expire without debate.
Under the new law, in order to be eligible to vote you must be 18 years of age, lived in D.C. for a minimum of 30 days and may not claim to vote in any other U.S. State or Territory. The law has not been funded yet and according to WAMU reporter Martin Austermuhle, “the new law still has to be funded, to the tune of $1.6 million to create the new voter registry for non-citizens. That’s not a big amount for the D.C. budget, but it’s still worth watching to see if and how this is implemented in time for 2024 elections.”
Many critics on the right have said this for years, that the Democrat Party has fully embraced policies of open borders and giving voting rights to illegal immigrants in order for Democrats to be easily elected back into office, and now we see it come to fruition.
According to Fox News, House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) has introduced a resolution to disprove the law. “Voting is a pillar of American democracy and a constitutional right that undeniably needs to be protected and preserved for citizens of this country. The D.C. Council’s reckless decision to allow non-U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants the right to vote in local elections is an attack on the foundation of this republic,” Comer said in disbelief.
