The Attorney General of the United States, Merrick Garland, has now appointed US Attorney David Weiss to be the special counsel to oversee the investigation into Hunter Biden’s corruption which stinks of a coverup by the Justice Department and has Republicans infuriated.
Attorney General Garland told reporters today that Weiss is in charge of a “ongoing investigation” into Hunter Biden “as well as for any other matters that arose or may arise from that investigation.”
US Attorney David Weiss was in charge of the investigation into Hunter Biden previously and the one that approved the sweetheart plea deal which fell apart in court after a judge questioned the fine print. Garland said appointing Weiss was “in the public interest” however it screams unfairness and stinks of a coverup.
Garland stated the appointment of Weiss “reinforces for the American people the Department’s commitment to both independence and accountability in particularly sensitive matters.”
According to reports from NBC News, “The move was announced shortly before prosecutors from Weiss’s team revealed in a court filing the plea talks over tax and gun charges against the president’s son had broken down and the case would likely have to go to trial in California or Washington, D.C.. Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor charges related to his failure to pay income taxes earlier this year. But while standing in court last month waiting to enter the plea, the agreement fell apart over confusion about a separate gun charge.”
It was the Delaware Judge, Maryellen Noreika, who caught the fine print in the sweetheart plea deal which was unconstitutional and told both sides to renegotiate a new plea deal or go to trial, at which point Hunter Biden had to enter a not-guilty plea before the court.
During the court session, the Judge questioned the plea deal which basically gave Hunter Biden a pass on all future charges at which point prosecutors realized that wasn’t the agreement, especially since other investigations were forthcoming. Hunter Biden’s attorneys were under the impression that the plea would stop any investigations and future charges, but that was too good to be true.
The prosecutors have since released a statement regarding the plea deal noting “After the hearing, the parties continued negotiating but reached an impasse. A trial is therefore in order.”
Republicans are fuming over the appointment of David Weiss as special counsel. According to House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), he desperately wanted a special counsel appointed but never thought that the prosecutor who offered a ridiculous plea deal to Hunter Biden would be the one named.
According to a spokesperson for Jordan, “David Weiss can’t be trusted and this is just a new way to whitewash the Biden family’s corruption. Weiss has already signed off on a sweetheart plea deal that was so awful and unfair that a federal judge rejected it.”
Real Clear Investigations reporter Paul Sperry immediately took to Twitter to offer up his thoughts on why Weiss would be named as special counsel and how this could be an example of a major coverup by the Justice Department.
“DEVELOPING: By suddenly acquiring special counsel status, Hill investigators say embattled prosecutor David Weiss can now avoid testifying next month before the House Judiciary Committee and face grilling over reports he helped obstruct a broader investigation into Hunter Biden,” Sperry wrote.
American’s need to be able to trust the Justice Department and they know when something doesn’t smell right.
