On Sunday, President Biden was interviewed by CBS News’ Bob Costa where they discussed why Biden decided to drop out of the presidential race and basically admitted he was overthrown by his party.
Biden decided to name just one person when his “Democratic colleagues” decided to force him out of the campaign and that was former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
“The polls we had showed that it was a neck-and-neck race, it would have been down to the wire,” Biden explained. “But what happened was, a number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was gonna hurt them in the races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic, you’d be interviewing me about why did Nancy Pelosi say, why did — and I thought it’d be a real distraction.”
Biden did name Pelosi but closely walked the line of declaring that she was behind a soft coup to remove him as the Democratic candidate, who the voters decided they wanted.
Pelosi told CNN that she has not spoken with President Biden since he decided to end his campaign and insisted that she was not “the leader of any pressure [campaign].” She also said “He knows I love him,” trying to soften her answer.
“Just a little background, I’ve never been that impressed with his political operation,” Pelosi told the New Yorker. “They won the White House. Bravo. But my concern was this ain’t happening, and we have to make a decision for this to happen. The President has to make the decision for that to happen.”
Pelosi praised Biden for being “a fantastic president” but at the same time bashed his chances of reelection and the desire for his colleagues to see him step down.
The former speaker was named by Biden but many political analysts suspect that former President Obama operated behind the scenes to have Biden removed. According to investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, a senior Washington official described threats from Obama to have the 25th Amendment used to remove him from office if he didn’t stop his campaign.
“I went over [reports] this week with a senior official in Washington who helped me fashion an account of a White House in complete disarray,” Hersh described. “Obama called Biden after breakfast [on July 20] and said, ‘Here’s the deal. We have Kamala’s approval to invoke the 25th Amendment.’”
Pelosi and Obama seemed to pull the strings in the background along with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries falling in line.
