The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced the end of certain Federal Housing Administration (FHA) mortgages for illegal immigrants, according to Fox News. HUD Secretary Scott Turner stated the decision aims to ensure that federal home loans are not provided to individuals residing in the U.S. illegally, and will benefit Americans.

Turner announced the change on X, stating that taxpayer-backed FHA loans should benefit Americans who follow the rules and work diligently, not those who enter the country illegally. He also highlighted a new collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), led by Kristi Noem, to promote homeownership among American citizens.

“American taxpayers will no longer subsidize open borders by offering home loans to those who enter our nation illegally,” Turner wrote on X.

In another post, Turner praised the move as an effort to “protect the American Dream of homeownership.”

Earlier in the week, Turner and Secretary Krist Noem announced an agreement designed to prevent the misuse of public housing resources, ensuring they are directed toward U.S. citizens rather than illegal immigrants. This initiative will enhance data sharing between the two departments through newly established communication channels.

Turner emphasized that American tax dollars should be allocated for the benefit of American citizens, particularly addressing the nation’s housing crisis. He stated the agreement will optimize resources to ensure American citizens remain the priority in public housing. HUD reports approximately 9 million individuals reside in subsidized housing across the United States.

The Center for Immigration Studies reports that a significant percentage of non-citizen households, including green card holders and undocumented immigrants, utilize public assistance programs, costing taxpayers billions annually. The Trump administration has been advocating for increased scrutiny to prevent illegal immigrants from accessing taxpayer-funded resources. During the Biden administration, funds were allocated for housing assistance for migrants. According to Fox News, “tens of millions of dollars were spent on housing for migrants, including for all-expense-paid stays at hotels for some.”
