16-year-old Camrin Williams who was charged with shooting an NYPD cop is already out on bail. Williams, known as a young rapper by the name C Blu was “arrested after cops from the 48th Precinct responded to reports of an unruly crowd at Lorillard Place near East 187th Street on Jan. 18” reports The New York Post. Williams got into a struggle with cops after he refused to take his hands out of his pockets, at which point his gun went off. A bullet hit and wounded NYPD officer Kaseem Pennant, as well as the teenager in his groin. Williams was held at a Brooklyn juvenile facility on gun and assault charges but is now released after posting his $250,000 bond. “If anybody wants to know why we have a crisis of violence in this city, or why we’re about to bury two hero police officers, look no further than this disgraceful bail release,” said NYPD Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch in a statement. Lynch continued “this individual chose to carry illegal guns twice. He chose to fight with and shoot a New York City police officer. There’s no reason to believe he won’t do the exact same thing when he’s out on the street tonight.” An attorney for Williams said the young boy will not go back to violence. “Camrin has been released and will be back to his regular productive life of focusing on schoolwork and his music career,” said the attorney in a statement. The Bronx Supreme Court Justice who presided over the case has been criticized for being too lenient in charges, particularly with young defendants. “Shame on Judge Denis Boyle for allowing this to happen. The people of the Bronx won’t be safe as long as he’s on the bench” said Lynch. A spokesman for the state Office of Court Administration said in an email that the anger should not be focused on the judge, but rather on lawmakers. “The ire that the PBA president is projecting on the judge, who is following the law, should be directed at the individuals who promulgate those laws,” said spokesman Lucian Chalfen.
