A recent bill has passed the California State Senate which would allow illegal migrants to utilize the first-time homebuyer's program which has angered the entire country.
The bill passed the state senate 23-11 along party-line voting which now makes it's way down the system ultimately ending up on Governor Gavin Newsom's desk for possible approval. The recently passed law deemed the "California Dream for All" would potential assist home-buyers with up to a 20% down payment which couldn't be implemented because California ran out of money.
“In 2o22, $300 million was set aside for homebuyers on a first-come, first-served basis, and the money was allocated to approximately 2,000 applicants in just 11 days,” reported KCRA. “This year, the amount of funding being dished out is $250 million, and a lottery process will be used to determine which applicants receive loans.”
California faces a major budget crisis and is falling short by tens of billions because of people and business fleeing the state. The prior program now faces a budgeting crisis and now the state senate wants to add more taxpayer dollars to illegal migrants to own homes? KCRA reported, “the legislature and governor did not appropriate any funds for the program this year. In order to replenish the funds in future years, lawmakers and the governor will need to approve new money for it in future budgets."
“This is a commonsense bill that allows many of whom were essential workers during the COVID crisis to get in line and hopefully buy their first home,” said Democrat State Sen. Anna Caballero describing their plan. “It’s not going to be easy; the program was oversubscribed immediately. We need to put more money into the program.”
The Democrats argue that in order to qualify, ILLEGAL migrants would work and pay taxes. Republicans, in a state of shock, argued why on earth would California give money to illegal migrants over fixing homelessness of Americans and helping veterans buy their first homes.
“The U.S. as a whole has one million immigrants that come here legally, many of them are hoping to get assistance to purchase a home, this particular bill actually disenfranchises and disrespects those who have gone through the process who are ready to purchase or would like to purchase a home,” said GOP State Sen. Rosilicie Ochoa-Bogh.
“If the bill reaches his desk, the Governor will evaluate it on its merits,” said a Gov. Newsom spokesperson which social media tore to shreds.
