President Joe Biden was in Warsaw, Poland on Saturday where he made the statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power.” On Monday, while answering questions about his trip and comments, Biden had a “cheat sheet” to assist him.
Republican Senator Rand Paul told Fox News that Biden’s reliance on cue cards and behavior was like being “around somebody who’s in cognitive decline.” Biden was also mocked by various media outlets for his use of a “cheat sheet.”
79-year-old Joe Biden clearly needed to refer to the typed of cards made for him before he could muster up any kind of answer to questions about the war in Ukraine. Specifically, Biden was asked about his remarks relating to Putin remaining in power.
Photographs of Biden clearly show the cards he was holding and the potential questions with complete answers typed up. The cards were labeled “Tough Putin Q&A Talking Points” and the first two questions can be seen.
The first potential question written in full text on the card was “If you weren’t advocating for regime change, what did you mean? Can you clarify?” The answer was verbatim written out for Biden to respond in first person.
“I was expressing the moral outrage I felt toward the actions of this man” and “I was not articulating a change in policy.” The second question was regarding disagreements between the French and UK governments, questioning the unity of the NATO allies. The pre-typed answer was “No. NATO has never been more unified.”
On Sunday, French president Emmanuel Macron said he would not have used the word choice Biden did, adding how now saw his task as “achieving first a ceasefire and then the total withdrawal of [Russian] troops by diplomatic means.”
