Even liberal comedian Bill Maher has had enough. In a scorching takedown of Saturday Night Live, Maher accused the long-running NBC show of “lying” about supporters of President Donald Trump. The HBO host specifically called out a sketch aired during SNL’s 50th anniversary special that portrayed a MAGA supporter as too racist to shake hands with a black man.
“I hated it — wearing the MAGA hat, not shaking hands with a black person,” Maher said during his Club Random podcast. “And that’s when I thought, ‘You people don’t know MAGA people.’”
The sketch featured Tom Hanks reprising his “MAGA Doug” character from the popular 2016 Black Jeopardy! skit. But this time, instead of mutual respect, Hanks’ character backed away from host Kenan Thompson—an over-the-top moment that drew backlash from viewers who recognized the smear.
Maher continued, “You’re just hysterical and you’re not helping … mostly what I hate is it’s what I call a zombie lie. Don’t lie to me. It’s a lie.”
Despite Maher’s liberal credentials, he’s been increasingly vocal about his own side’s dishonesty, especially when it comes to branding half the country as racists. “When the premise isn’t real … the joke is not going to work,” he said. “That premise doesn’t ring true. It might have rang true, I don’t know, X years ago. It doesn’t now.”
Maher’s frustration echoes what conservatives have been saying for years: Hollywood elites and legacy media keep pushing tired stereotypes of Trump supporters, even as the facts paint a different picture. In 2024, Trump surged with Hispanic and black male voters, something the Left still refuses to acknowledge.
While Hillary Clinton once called Trump supporters a “basket of deplorables,” Bill Maher just told the truth: “All the MAGA people I know have no problem shaking hands with a black person.”
That sound you hear? It’s the liberal narrative falling apart.
