Police in Ottawa cracked down on the ‘Freedom Trucker Convoy’ currently occupying the heart of Canada’s capital Monday; arresting at least seven people and issuing hundreds of tickets to protesters.

The move comes hours after Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson declared a “state of emergency.”

“ICYMI: 7 people arrested, 100 tickets issued in Demonstration-Related Enforcement @OttawaPolice has made multiple arrests in relation to several enforcement actions related to the ongoing demonstration. There are over 60 criminal investigations so far,” posted the police department.

“This is a siege — it is something that is different in our democracy than I’ve ever experienced in my life,” Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly said on Saturday. “We do not have sufficient resources to adequately and effectively address this situation.”
