Last week NASCAR driver Brandon Brown unveiled his 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series 68 Chevrolet Camaro. The car was decorated in his namesake theme, “Let’s Go Brandon” which became a famous phrase that was code for “F*** Joe Biden.”
Less than a week later, NASCAR made the decision to ban the president Biden bashing car. The “Let’s Go Brandon” or LGB movement began after a reporter made the claim on-air that fans were chanting “Let’s go Brandon'' in support of the driver as she was interviewing him.
In fact, the crowd was very clearly throwing the F-bomb at President Biden. Cryptocurrency company LGBCoin decided to sponsor the driver’s themed car. Bob Pockrass reported via Twitter on Tuesday, “NASCAR has made the final decision that the LGBcoin sponsorship for Brandon Brown is not an approved sponsorship o be on the car.”
NASCAR fans have pointed out that the organization allowed Bubba Wallace to drive a Black Lives Matter-themed car in June of 2020, at the height of its political movement. “The major issue most fans are going to have with this decision is that there is no consistency at all. How is a BLM car allowed but a car poking fun at President Joe Biden is banned?” writes the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Daily Caller points out that NASCAR and other sports fans and viewers already expressed concern that the media downplayed or flat out ignored the message fans were sending with the chants. “Why is the media ignoring ‘F**k Joe Biden’ and ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ chants? Many sports fans HATE Joe Biden, but we’re all supposed to pretend that’s not true. Not me! I’ll never hold back” tweeted David Hookstead in October.
