President-elect Donald Trump has announced plans for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed at resolving the ongoing war in Ukraine. Speaking to reporters, Trump emphasized the urgency of ending the conflict, calling it “a bloody mess.”

“He wants to meet, and we are setting it up,” Trump said, adding that Putin has publicly expressed his willingness to engage in talks. While no timeline has been confirmed, the announcement comes as Western allies voice concerns over the future of U.S. support for Ukraine following Trump’s inauguration on January 20.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged Putin’s openness to international discussions but declined to provide further details. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has also signaled a readiness to meet with Trump to discuss security guarantees ahead of any potential negotiations with Putin.

The international community remains divided, with some fearing a shift in U.S. policy could tip the scales in Russia’s favor. Meanwhile, countries continue to pledge military aid to Ukraine as diplomatic efforts gain momentum.
