President Trump has appointed Alina Habba, his longtime legal advisor and current Counselor to the President, as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. In a Truth Social post, President Trump said Habba “will lead with the same diligence and conviction that has defined her career” and called the move effective immediately.
Habba is best known for defending President Trump in high-profile civil suits in New York and serving as a vocal surrogate during legal battles throughout his presidency. A managing partner at a New Jersey law firm near President Trump’s Bedminster golf course, Habba replaces John Giordano, who is being nominated as ambassador to Namibia.
Her appointment marks another example of President Trump elevating trusted allies into federal roles. The interim position is temporary—lasting 120 days unless extended by New Jersey’s federal judges or followed by Senate confirmation.
President Trump praised both Habba and Giordano in his announcement, highlighting Habba’s commitment to a “fair and just” legal system for the people of New Jersey.
