Prince Harry took a few jabs at President Trump during his appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, while remarking on Americans’ fixation with the royals, according to the New York Post. Harry joined Colbert at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City after the host joked about a string of “problematic” Christmas movies featuring royalty. In the moment, Harry said, “I genuinely thought this was the audition for the Gingerbread Prince saves Christmas in Nebraska,” as he stepped onto the stage. He later joked about pursuing acting because of Americans’ obsession with Christmas films and royalty. Colbert followed with a playful dismissal of the claim, setting up Harry’s scripted response. “Really? I heard you elected a king,” Harry said, followed by “boos and groans” from the audience. Colbert piped in immediately telling the audience, “That’s a fair point, no, he’s got a point.” The quips targeting the President, without saying his name, did not end there, however, after Harry said what he would do to get a role on Colbert’s fictional Hallmark movie. According to The Post, Harry said, “I’ll record a self-tape, I’ll fly myself to an audition, settle a baseless lawsuit with the White House. All the things you people on TV do.” The quip was apparently in reference to CBS’s $16 million settlement with Trump. “Hey, Harry, I didn’t do any of those things,” Colbert said. “Maybe that’s why you’re canceled,” Harry replied. According to The Post, “Trump accused the broadcasting company and “60 Minutes” of deceptively editing an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.” The then-Republican nominee urged CBS to release unedited Harris interview tapes, showing two different responses to Israel questions on “60 Minutes” and “Face the Nation.” CBS and Paramount settled with Trump in July. Weeks later, Colbert claimed his show was canceled due to Trump, not financial reasons for the company. Trump and Harry have clashed over the past year, as the author of “Spare” faced potential deportation in February due to immigration-status issues. The appearance came just hours after Harry’s father-in-law was reportedly rushed to the hospital for “emergency surgery.”
