The United States Supreme Court issued a historic ruling Friday that ends federal protection for abortions across the country, sending the decision back to the states and their elected officials.
“We end this opinion where we began. Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the court’s opinion.
“The Court did not explain the basis for this line, and even abortion supporters have found it hard to defend Roe’s reasoning,” Alito wrote.

The opinion comes weeks after a draft decision was leaked from inside the Supreme Court.
This is a developing story…
It’s all over the news today
This was a 6-3 decision, not a 5-4 decision as it is being reported by some media outlets. Chief Justice set out his own opinion in concurrence with the majority opinion. The MSM will play it like it was a really close decision. However it is set forth in the opinion that 6 out of the 9 Justices agree that this is a States’ rights issue and that the voters in each State should have the right to decide.
Just why are some reacting as though abortion is done away with? California and I believe New York both said they would pay travel expenses for anyone wanting to have an abortion in their state. So I say, take a paid vacation to kill your baby. Then when people ask you what you did on your vacation you can tell them you murdered your unborn baby. So what is the big deal about the ruling sending it to the individual states??

This is why it is an issue. Some states want to make it criminal to travel to other states for an abortion where it is still legal.
And just for clarification, embryos and fetuses are not babies. One has to be born in order to be a baby.
It always should have been a states’ rights issue. It amazes me that it took this long to make it so.
OK, sure, a states’ rights issue. Well, why not make it a city/county issue? That seems fair, right? In fact, let’s make it a neighborhood issue. Or take it another step further and make it a household issue. Or better yet, a PERSONAL issue. Because no one has any right to tell a woman what to do with her body. An embryo is not a baby. A fetus is not a baby. I’m all for the restrictions that were set in Roe, which stated:
In the first trimester of pregnancy, the state may not regulate the abortion decision; only the pregnant woman and her attending physician can make that decision. In the second trimester, the state may impose regulations on abortion that are reasonably related to maternal health. In the third trimester, once the fetus reaches the point of “viability,” a state may regulate abortions or prohibit them entirely, so long as the laws contain exceptions for cases when abortion is necessary to save the life or health of the mother.
People seem to forget that the Roe decision DID set up restrictions. It allowed the states control AFTER the first trimester. During the first trimester a fetus does NOT have a fully formed brain. It is NOT a person. Don’t force your moral or religious feelings on other people. I wish the conservative crown would follow their own advice and leave people alone to make their own decisions.
I might want to travel to see the 9/11 Memorial one day… And visit my family in California the next day or two. I might not be impressed with NYC’s accommodations, so I might have to decline the abortion on grounds of it appearing to be too insanitary, a little too Gosnell-like, so LA here I come!
Did I mention that I’m feeling like a woman and identifying as pregnant?
Woefully inadequate system of accountability.
Congrats on your pregnancy David! I hope it’s a dog, like you.
Congratulations on your pregnancy David! I hope it’s a dog, like you.
Congratulations conservatives. You have successfully used your specific religious beliefs to remove a woman’s right to her own body. I hope the next step is to improve the funding for WIC and SNAP, provide proper health care for these children, and add more funding to all of the social programs necessary to provide for their well-being. It’s nice to think about all of the “babies” you are saving… now think about how to provide for all of the CHILDREN as they grow up. You are pro-life, right? Or does that sentiment only apply to the unborn? I’d hate to think that you are being hypocritical in your stance on life.
“The last year for which the CDC reported a yearly national total for abortions is 2019. The agency says there were 629,898 abortions nationally that year…”
That’s a lot of kids to care for. I hope you’re ready to pay your fair share in taxes to support them. Maybe you can adopt some of these unwanted children… it’s the christian thing to do, right? Taking care of those who cannot take care of themselves? Or is going to church once a week enough to guarantee your spot in heaven? There’s a lot of tough decisions you need to make now. I suggest you support politicians that promote strong social programs, or jesus may not allow you a place by his side.
