The Democrats claim that illegal immigration benefits the economy of the United States by those here illegally often pay taxes to which they're not eligible to use the benefits of those tax dollars. Many D.C. liberal think tanks would produce statistics to try and prove that this is true and is beneficial for America.
Under President Joe Biden's leadership, at least 5 million illegal immigrants have crossed the border into the United States, not including the hundreds of thousands that entered undetected. Some have estimated that there are over 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States, but that number could be closer to 20 million or more without any real way of knowing.
According to a study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the actual cost to U.S. taxpayers from illegal immigration is $151 billion a year, a whopping 30% increase in a five year time frame.
The immigration group FAIR is considered by many to hold a sensible immigration and border security stance and in a report from Fox News, the group concluded that "American taxpayers pay overall around $182 billion annually for services and benefits to illegal immigrants. However, those costs are offset by around $31 billion in taxes collected from what they estimate are 15.5 million illegal immigrants in the U.S."
Five years ago, FAIR reported that the cost to taxpayers for illegal immigration was $116 billion annually. According to FAIR President Dan Stein, “America struggles to meet countless societal needs while facing the realities of our staggering $31 trillion national debt, the costs of providing for millions of people who have no legal right to be in the United States continues to grow at an alarming rate."
“Not only is the Biden administration refusing to rein in illegal immigration or remove the people who are breaking our laws, they are promulgating policies that actually encourage more of it while offering new protections and benefits to those who settle here illegally,” he said in a statement. “Likewise, a growing number of states and localities create their own costly magnets for illegal aliens by declaring themselves sanctuaries and offering new benefits and services. This has to stop.”
