In New York State, over 380,00 legal citizens are unemployed and looking for work but for some reason, NY Governor Kathy Hochul has decided to launch a job assistance program for illegal aliens.
New York has been controlled by Democrats for decades and the self-imposed sanctuary state has seen a massive rise in illegal migrants flocking to NYC because of the wide open southern border resulting from Biden's border policies. Thousands of illegal migrants have decided to make NYC their home but the system is maxed out and they're unable to house anymore people.
Gov. Hochul has asked the Biden administration is expedite the process by which the migrants can obtain work permits which still has not happened. Hochul has now decided that its up to New York to help the illegal migrants find jobs through the New York State Department of Labor (DOL) which will authorize migrants to work with employers.
“Today, @NYSLabor is launching a process for asylum seekers to sign up for employment opportunities, so they can quickly find a job after attaining legal work status, and will also unveil a new process for employers to express their interest in hiring work-authorized migrants,” Hochul wrote on Twitter/X.
According to a statement released on the DOL's website, “All asylum seekers with work authorization in New York can now register for assistance here. DOL career experts will work with individuals to assess skills, work history, education, career interests and more, and connect them with employers across the State. Additionally, the New York State Department of Labor launched a portal enabling businesses to inform the State that they would welcome newly-authorized individuals into their workforce.”
“This crisis originated with the federal government, and it must be resolved with the federal government,” Hochul said addressing the recent annoucement. “For me, the answer to these two crises — a humanitarian crisis and our workforce crisis — is so crystal clear and common sense. Let them get the work authorizations; let them work; legally, let them work."
New York City Mayor Eric Adams reacted to Hochul's proposal in a statement,“We appreciate Governor Hochul’s acknowledgment of the incredible work that New York City has done to manage the influx of tens of thousands of asylum seekers in the last year, and we are gratified to hear that she is calling for immediate federal action."
The White House responded only by passing the buck blaming Congress for lack of action rather than addressing the root cause of this self-inflicted crisis.
