On Friday, Judge Juan Merchan overseeing President-elect Donald Trump’s sentencing in NYC has decided to indefinitely delay his sentencing.

According to Judge Merchan’s previous order, sentencing for President-elect Trump was supposed to occur on Nov 26th but will no longer take place as scheduled.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed to delay the proceedings until President-elect Trump serves his term in office and may be sentenced after his term ends in 2029.

“The People deeply respect the Office of the President, are mindful of the demands and obligations of the presidency, and acknowledge that Defendant’s inauguration will raise unprecedented legal questions,” NYC prosecutors wrote in a filing on Tuesday. “We also deeply respect the fundamental role of the jury in our constitutional system.”

Attorney’s for President-elect Trump argued on numerous occasions that the case should be immediately dismissed from the Supreme Court ruling and now “in order to facilitate the orderly transition of executive power following President Trump’s overwhelming victory in the 2024 Presidential election.”

Trump’s defense team must file their motion to dismiss the case entirely by Dec. 2 according to Judge Merchan at which point the prosecutors must respond by Dec. 9.
