Joe Pagliarulo weighed-in this week on the growing trend for a $25/hour minimum wage in the United States; saying no one is entitled to a job that will “pay all your bills.”
“This idea of a minimum wage shows up on social media. It’s this revolving story… People want mandatory $15 an hour… Now it’s $25,” said Pags.
“Let me say this very directly. The minimum wage should be $0.00. That’s the minimum wage,” he explained. “It should be zero. In free market economies, you let the market set the price. If you can hire people for $5 an hour, do it.”
“The fact that there’s even a minimum wage makes me crazy. Companies have to pay what people demand. If the demand is $15, then that’s what you’re going to have to pay,” added Pagliarulo.
“To just pull a number out of nowhere is just stupid,” he concluded.

Sure, and take away weekends while you’re at it. In fact, no more over time, no more child labor laws, no more workplace safety. No health benefits, no workers’ compensation. Allow big businesses everywhere to grind the working people into dust for more profit.
This is such a lazy take, Joe. You are on a slippery slope for taking away all rights and benefits that workers have fought for near a hundred years. It’s unamerican. Do you like fast food? If you’re like me, you enjoy the decadence of a burger and fries every now and then. Do you stay at hotels? I do sometimes, and I like to have clean sheets and a clean room. Have you ever had to use daycare or elder care services? These are things that we all take for granted, services that we like, and that we sometimes rely on. According to Cornell Law, “The minimum wage was designed to create a minimum standard of living to protect the health and well-being of employees.”
I’m sorry that you don’t care about your fellow Americans’ well-being. I do. My neighbor’s success is, in some ways, my success. Economic prosperity reduces crime (my selfish reason). It raises the standard of living for people (my caring, human reason). But most of all, the vast majority of so-called “low skill” jobs require a LOT of hard work. And it deserves to be rewarded. The greed that you promote for the economic ruling class is gross.
Same in Australia.
I don’t understand such weak nominal requests.
Asking for extra money like $25/hr is just messing about and everyone will be back again in 6 months or so needing to negotiate more.
What fool decided to stop at $25 an hour?
If we are selecting figures, how about $40 an hour ….. or $200 an hour more , that sounds more reasonable I guess .Maybe more?
Might be we could all be wealthy if we just pushed a bit more assertively against these Capitalist tyrants!!!! 😉
