Intending to be decent, compassionate, and helpful to a person in need, a woman in Salt Lake City, Utah, let a homeless man into her apartment to shower. He slit her throat. Initially, the authorities did not know what or who had caused the Good Samaritan’s injury.

Police were informed only that a woman was “bleeding heavily,” as reported on KUTV-TV. The identity of the woman was not disclosed. After surgery, her condition was reported as critical but stable.

She was able to tell the authorities that she had voluntarily let the man into her apartment to offer assistance and allow him to shower. The woman further informed the police that the man fled after slashing her neck.

The police characterized the attack as apparently “random.” It was just before 5 p.m. last Sunday when officers received a report of the attack on the woman. “Paramedics transported her to a local hospital in critical condition where she received emergency surgery. The article reported that after surgery, the doctors upgraded her condition. As of this writing, no further updates of her condition are available.

“Working with detectives, SLCPD Patrol Officers arrested 30-year-old, Eric Jones, who is believed to be the assailant. Jones has been described to police as being homeless. Police picked Jones up a few days later, at about 1 a.m. on Friday and charged him with aggravated assault. “No additional information on this case is being released at this time,” police said, noting that the investigation was ongoing. “The victim, in this case, is requesting privacy.”
