An illegal immigrant who sprayed a hundred rounds of AR-15 fire off a Dallas overpass while families gathered below for New Year’s Eve fireworks has finally learned his fate — and it’s a courtroom moment that should make every open-borders Democrat look away in shame.
Jose Alarcon Sanchez, 18, a Mexican national who entered the United States on a temporary visa in May 2025 and then illegally overstayed, was sentenced Monday to two years and 11 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to unlawfully possessing a firearm as an illegal immigrant, the New York Post reports.
On that night, Sanchez and another man stood on the Margaret McDermott Bridge in downtown Dallas and took turns firing black AR-style rifles over the side — while revelers were gathered below to watch the fireworks. They filmed each other doing it. Approximately 100 cartridge casings were recovered from the scene, and the video went viral, racking up more than 6.5 million views online. Let that sink in.
Grand Prairie Police responding to a separate “shots fired” call led investigators to Sanchez. They found multiple firearms at his home, including the AR-15-style pistol that matched the casings on the bridge. His Mexican passport was also recovered, confirming his illegal status. Other social media posts showed him posing with the weapons used that night.
“What happened on that bridge could have ended in tragedy,” said Brian Garner, the ATF agent in charge of the case, adding that Sanchez put “innocent people in danger.” Judge David C. Godbey, who handed down the sentence in the Northern District of Texas, noted how young the defendant was — but insisted he needed a harsh punishment given how “incredibly dangerous” his conduct had been.
U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould didn’t mince words. “Spraying rifle fire off a downtown bridge is a lawless act that puts our Dallas residents at risk,” Raybould said. “This sentence makes clear that anyone who turns a celebration into a crime scene will face swift and serious federal consequences. We will not tolerate violent, brazen conduct that endangers the public, and we will continue to use every federal tool available to protect North Texans.”
This is a window into what happens when the border is treated as a suggestion rather than a law. An illegal immigrant with no right to be here, no right to possess a firearm, turned a holiday celebration into a war zone — and it was only by the grace of God that no one died. Nearly three years in federal prison is the bare minimum for a crime this brazen. The real question is why he was walking free in the first place.
