Former press secretary for Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky was not happy at vice president Kamala Harris after her visit with Polish President Andrzej Duda. “It would be a tragedy if this woman won the presidency,” said Julia Mendel on her Twitter account.
Mendel was responding to a video posted by another Twitter user which showed Harris laughing following a question from a reporter about Ukrainian refugees. The video shows the two confused about which one should answer the reporter’s question.
Harris awkwardly laughed and said, “a friend in need is a friend indeed.” How polite and comical as war crimes are happening just miles away. Fox News reports “Harris was ripped by critics following the exchange, accusing her of looking to Duda for help answering the question and slamming her for laughing amid the suffering of Ukrainians at the hands of the Russian military.”
Harris has been in Poland, sent “to reinforce that the U.S. is standing firm with its NATO allies, as well as in a show of support for the alliance’s eastern flank amid the Russian aggression toward Ukraine” added Fox News.
Twitter users scolded the vice president for being uninformed and unprepared to speak publicly about the invasion of Ukraine. Particularly in Poland, a neighboring country of Ukraine where over 1 million refugees have fled thus far.
“Also a reflection of her staff that can’t prepare or teach her about her meetings. Sad. Very sad” wrote one Twitter user. “We’re dealing with people who come out pushing EV’s in the face of a war enabled by Europe’s dependence on Russian oil, a vulnerability we are fully equipped to secure rapidly with domestic production. God, help us all” wrote another.
