Families attempting to fly home from Christmas Vacation were greeted at the airport with thousands of additional cancellations Wednesday, stranding countless Americans across the country.

Southwest Airlines alone canceled another 2,500 flights in the last 24 hours.

“Southwest passengers have experienced unacceptable disruptions and customer service conditions. I have made clear to their executives that our department will hold Southwest accountable for making things right with their customers and employees,” explained Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on CNN.

“According to the FlightAware tracking service, more than 91% of all canceled flights in the U.S. early Wednesday were from Southwest, which has been unable to recover from ferocious winter storms that raked large swaths of the country over the weekend.  The operational systems of Southwest have been uniquely effected, so much so that the federal government is now investigating what happened at the Dallas carrier, which has frustrated its own flight and ground crews as well,” reports the Associated Press.
