In a recent meeting of the House Republican Study Committee, a memo was distributed to all Republican members which stated their belief that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be impeached according to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
According to the GOP caucus memo, Secretary Mayorkas is guilty of “high crimes and misdemeanors” for the alleged mishandling security at the southern border causing a massive influx of migrants throughout America illegally.
The Republican House Study Committee is chaired by Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern and consists of numerous conservative House lawmakers.
Simultaneously, the House Homeland Security Committee launched an investigation into Secretary Mayorkas led by Chairman Mark Green, who has not made his position clear on impeachment and will wait to hear the reports of the probe.
The caucus memo stated, “Secretary Mayorkas’ behavior continues to threaten the integrity of the Constitution and the rule of law. While Impeachment is an extraordinary measure, it is absolutely necessary when faced with a Cabinet Secretary who willfully acts in subversion of the confines of Congressional authority and the letter of the law.”
The Republican caucus alleges Mayorkas “perjured himself before Congress” when he shockingly said that the Department of Homeland Security had “operational control” of the U.S. Mexico border, demonstrated “pervasive dishonesty” about how bad the crisis was and remains at the southern border, and created a DHS Disinformation Governance Board which stifled free speech.
Under the Biden administration and the leadership of Secretary Mayorkas, migrant encounters hit all time highs with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reporting 2.3 million encounters in 2022 and over 1.7 million encounters from October 2022 through June.
The memo highly suggests that “The House of Representatives should thoughtfully pursue impeachment proceedings against Secretary Mayorkas as his actions meet the constitutional standard of ‘high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”
