The Daily Caller News Foundation recently obtained internal data from the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) which shows the Border Patrol having over 22,000 illegal migrants currently in custody nationwide which is a new record high.
In June, Border Patrol had 7,696 illegal migrants in custody and then in August the number increased to 17,000, but now we have a new record high of over 22,000. How can the Biden administration possibly claim that the border is secure and there isn’t a crisis?
Border Patrol is currently reporting that NINE sectors are over capacity which includes the Del Rio territory in Texas, which has seen the largest surge and reports a whopping 280% over capacity.
Because of the massive influx of migrants, Border Patrol agents are constantly consumed with processing and are unable to continually man the large swaths of the border, which then lets more migrants through and drug smuggling.
The Democratic Mayor of El Paso, Oscar Leeser, has said publicly over the weekend that his city is at its “breaking point” and the Democratic Mayor of Eagle Pass even declared a state of emergency because of the seemingly unstoppable surge in migrants.
New agents are being deployed and one agent described the situation as, “I am currently processing for Del Rio/Eagle Pass. I started last month. Our duties now revolve around virtual processing and the facilitation of the inflow of illegal migration into the United States. The scenario unfolds with agents stationed at their respective posts, immersed in virtual paperwork, striving to cope with the overwhelming surge of illegal migrants, far outpacing our capacity to process them efficiently. This has rendered our border exposed and vulnerable.”
The Border Patrol continues to see record numbers of illegal crossings, with the latest numbers reaching over 2 million. The Border Patrol moral is at an all time low because they do all the hard work of catching illegal crossings, process them, and then just release them into the interior United States in the hopes that they will show up for a court date.
“We are upset because what they are making us do is break our oath we pledged. They have taken our job and made it a joke. We have endangered the country in so many ways. We must sleep at night knowing we are the reason this nation is in trouble,” a second agent said. “In my extensive 13-year tenure, I find myself grappling with a reality I never envisaged. Our current circumstances defy logic; established policies, our solemn oaths, and the very essence of our professional calling have been eroded. Instead, we find ourselves relegated to mere affirmations from higher authorities, commending our efforts. The days of border patrol, the pursuit of illicit substances—what we colloquially term ‘dope’—have yielded to a role resembling that of caretaker.”
