According to a new poll, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has the lowest approval rating in recorded history.
The New York City Mayor is under major scrutiny and faces a never ending negative news cycle. Mayor Adams is currently under investigation for federal campaign finance violations from his 2021 campaign, faces a sexual assault lawsuit, and has completely mishandled the immigration crisis in the city draining its financial resources to unprecedented levels.
The new Quinnipiac University poll shows Adams with a shockingly low approval rating of 28% which is the lowest rating since the University began polling in 1996.
Quinnipiac’s assistant poll director, Mary Snow said in a statement,“There’s no good news for Mayor Adams in this poll. Not only are voters giving him poor grades on the job he’s doing at City Hall, their views on his character have dimmed. As the city faces across-the-board budget cuts while dealing with a migrant crisis, headlines about a federal investigation into the mayor’s 2021 campaign and an accusation of sexual assault leveled against him from 30 years ago are taking a toll.”
Across all demographics of the poll, Mayor Adams saw his approval ratings under 50% clearly showing he can’t do the job. Even amongst his fellow Democrats, his approval rating fell to 35% with 49% of Democrats actually disapproving.
His worst ratings came on financial issues such as the city budget which faced major cuts across the board and the increasing homelessness crisis. Just 22% of voters approved his handling of those situations. The poll did indicate that voters in New York City believe illegal immigration into the city will inevitably “destroy” the city.
Adams’ worst ratings on issues were regarding the city budget and homelessness, where just 22% of voters approved of his performance. The poll also revealed that 62% of voters agreed with Adams’ statement in September that the migrant influx could “destroy” New York City.
Mayor Adams is losing the trust of his constituentis with only 32% believing he was “honest and trustworthy” and 54% disagreeing.
Perhaps this is an opening for former Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York to run for mayor after his sexual harassment charges against him were dismissed. Or maybe, try a Republican?
