The party that spent four years swearing Joe Biden was “sharp as a tack” got another reminder Saturday night of exactly what they were covering for. The 83-year-old former president took the stage at the Maryland Democratic Party’s “Fight Back and Win” summit outside Baltimore — and when his speech was over, he couldn’t find his way off of it, the New York Post reports.

According to the Post, Biden turned to the side looking for directions, pointed two different ways, and then wandered off with his back to the audience. He squinted at the teleprompter, coughed loudly several times early on, and leaned on the script the entire way through. It was, in other words, the same Joe Biden the country watched deteriorate in real time while his handlers and a compliant press insisted our own eyes were lying.

The content of the speech was no sharper than the navigation. Biden ripped President Trump over what he called the “deliberate distraction — destruction of NATO,” then went after the renovations at the White House. “It’s not just his vanity projects — tearing down the East Wing of the White House making room for his ballroom,” Biden said. “Putting his name on the Kennedy Center. Building an arch in his own honor. Even hiring his own pool guy to fix the reflecting pool. Woah — what a loser.”

He also tried out some revisionist economics, asking the room, “Have you noticed that Americans are saying the economy under the Biden administration is a hell of a lot better than under Trump?” That landed about as well as you would expect from the administration that handed the country its worst inflation in 40 years. Of course it did.

This was not a one-off. The Post notes the appearance came just days after the grand opening of the Obama presidential library in Chicago, where Biden was left standing awkwardly onstage and shouted “Where’s my granddaughter?” on his way to the podium. Add the wandering at the 2024 G7 in Italy, and you have a pattern the entire Democratic establishment pretended not to see — right up until the debate stage made it impossible.

And notice what Biden did not mention: the civil war breaking out in his own party after democratic socialists swept three New York primaries. The man who was supposed to be the moderate firewall now can’t find the edge of a stage, let alone steer the movement he once led.

This is a window into what happens when a political party decides that loyalty to power matters more than honesty with voters. They knew. They built a reelection campaign around a man who needs help walking off a stage, and they smeared anyone who noticed as a liar. Saturday night, the curtain slipped again — and there was Joe, pointing in two directions at once.
