The walls keep closing in on Ilhan Omar. One day after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., home, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced that her office is now investigating the Minnesota Democrat’s financial disclosures, The Western Journal reports, citing Pirro’s Tuesday appearance on Fox News’ “America Reports.”
At the center of the probe is a startling jump in the reported value of businesses tied to Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett. According to Fox News, Omar’s filings put those businesses at as much as $51,000 in 2023 — and as much as $30 million in 2024. Disclosure forms report assets in broad ranges, so the combined value ran from roughly $15,000–$51,000 one year to $6 million–$30 million the next.
The two ventures are a California winery, eStCru LLC, and a Washington, D.C.-based venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital LLC. The winery’s reported value went from between $15,000 and $50,000 to between $1 million and $5 million. Rose Lake Capital went from between $1 and $1,000 to between $5 million and $25 million. Read that again: as little as one dollar to as much as $25 million in a single year.
House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., demanded records from both companies in February. Omar then amended her disclosures in April, cutting the couple’s combined reported assets to between $18,004 and $95,000 and listing her husband’s two businesses as having no net value after liabilities. Her office said the original filings had failed to account for those liabilities, and the congresswoman has repeatedly maintained that she is not a millionaire. Her latest annual disclosure, filed in May, listed assets between roughly $20,000 and $125,000, according to a Minnesota Star Tribune analysis. In September, the Office of Congressional Conduct voted 5–1 to recommend that the House Ethics Committee dismiss the misconduct allegations. Pirro’s investigation is separate from that review.
The timing could hardly be worse for Omar. Monday’s search of her home was part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation involving her immigration paperwork, two sources told Fox News Digital. The Justice Department confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant. It remains unclear whether that search is connected to the financial probe. Omar has denied any wrongdoing and has accused the Trump administration of targeting her for political reasons.
This is a window into what happens when a powerful politician gets treated as untouchable for years. A congressional watchdog looked at disclosures that swung by millions and recommended dropping the matter, and it took a federal prosecutor to keep asking the obvious question. Americans who report their own finances down to the dollar deserve to know how a family’s businesses went from pocket change to as much as $30 million on paper, and why that number shrank to almost nothing once Congress started asking.
