According to a statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a migrant child has died while in custody which shockingly amounts to three such deaths in only two months.

In Harlingen, Texas, an eight-year-old girl died after experiencing a medical emergency while in custody of CBP. Another migrant child died only a few days before her.

“Consistent with CBP protocol, the Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting an investigation of the incident. The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General and the Harlingen Police Department were also notified. Additional information will be made available in accordance with CBP’s policy regarding deaths in custody,” CBP explained.

The Harlingen, Texas incident occurred at the southern border after being placed in custody by CBP along with her family.  The very sick migrant child was immediately transported to a nearby hospital in an effort to save her life but upon arrival the medical staff pronounced her dead.

On Friday, another migrant child, Angel Eduardo Maradiaga Espinoza, traveled from Honduras crossing the southern border illegally and was apprehended by CBP.  Because Espinoza was a 17-year-old minor, the department of Health and Human Services assumed custody at which point a medical emergency occurred and was also pronounced dead.

Border Patrol agents have encountered over 81,000 unaccompanied migrant children from October 2022 through this past April. Thats a staggering number of children making a dangerous journey to enter the United States.  President Biden’s lack of security at the border and overall position on illegal immigration only exacerbates the problem and encourages more and more children to make the dangerous journey.
