Here’s what happened: Campa-Najjar has been a Navy Reserve officer since 2023, but his campaign materials boldly called him a “Navy Officer” without the crucial “Reserve” distinction. That might sound like splitting hairs to civilians, but the Pentagon has crystal-clear rules about this stuff. Reservists must clearly indicate their status when running for office, and they can’t parade around in uniform photos without proper disclaimers.
But wait, it gets worse. This candidate also got caught using photos taken at Massachusetts National Cemetery for campaign purposes, posing in front of a Korean War veteran’s grave – a man named Richard K. Stephenson who died in 1997. Campa-Najjar’s own campaign admitted he had zero connection to Stephenson. Talk about exploiting our fallen heroes for political gain.
The Navy is now officially “looking into the matter,” and Campa-Najjar’s team has been scrambling to update his website, quietly changing “Navy Officer” to “Navy Reserve Officer” after getting called out. His campaign manager is doing damage control, claiming they followed all the rules, but the evidence tells a different story.
