2024 presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis confirmed Friday his plans to attend the first GOP debate whether former president Donald Trump decides to show-up or skip the exposition.
The event is scheduled for August 23rd in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and will be moderated by Fox News.
“I’ll be there regardless. I hope everybody who’s eligible comes. I think it’s an important part of the process and I look forward to being able to be on the stage and introducing our candidacy and our vision and our leadership to a wide audience,” DeSantis confirmed.
Trump, currently holding massive leads over his potential challengers, has indicated publicly he may skip the debate.
Latest polls show the former president enjoying the support of 56% of Republicans, followed by DeSantis with 22%, Vivek Ramaswamy at 5%, Mike Pence with 4%, Tim Scott with 4%, and Nikki Haley with 3%.
“We’ve got a huge amount of support to be able to take the case to the people,” DeSantis told Fox News. “We really haven’t started that yet. We’re in the process of building out a great organization, and I think we’re going to be on the ground in all these early states.”
