The midterm elections are tomorrow and the House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) may be the new Speaker of the House if Republicans take control.

In a CNN interview on Monday with Melanie Zanona, McCarthy touted the GOP’s Commitment to America ahead of the midterm elections. Many Republicans want accountability for the Biden Administration gone wild ranging from a failed border policy, gas prices out of control and inflation rising.  Zanona pushed McCarthy to answer how he would handle accountability of the administration and also asked “Is impeachment on the table?”

McCarthy deflected the question responding, “You know what’s on the table, Accountability.”

Zanona reiterated to the Minority Leader,  “Some of your members have already called for impeachment, what do you say to those members?”

McCarthy responded “I say the one thing I’ve always known about the land of America–it’s the rule of law, and we will hold the rule of law and we won’t play politics with this. We’ll never use impeachment for political purposes. That doesn’t mean if something rises to the occasion it would not be used at any other time. It wouldn’t matter if it’s a Republican or Democrat.”

The Minority Leader was clear that he didn’t want the Republicans to be seen as playing politics with something as serious as impeachment.  He was disgusted by the actions taken from the Democrats as they clearly developed a partisan narrative to get President Donald Trump removed from office.

“But the idea of what the Democrats have done, what Adam Schiff did to this nation, is treacherous. To lie to the nation and put us through this time and again when he knew where this origin’s created from–we’re better than all that,” said McCarthy.

During an interview with Maria Bartiromo earlier this year, Congressman McCarthy has remained steadfast in his position that impeachment is a tool only to be used as the last option and can’t have the appearance of a political attack.  He told Bartiromo, “the one thing we learned that the Democrats did is they used impeachment for political reasons. We believe in the rule of law. We’re not going to pick and choose just because somebody has power. We’re going to uphold the law.”

More importantly, McCarthy wanted to offer the GOP vision for the future.  In the interview with Zanona, McCarthy asked “Shouldn’t we know where the origins of COVID actually started? They didn’t have one hearing on it. Shouldn’t we know what happened in the last 60 days of Afghanistan, so we would never repeat that again–we wouldn’t have 13 new gold star families that should have never happened? Shouldn’t we know why the DOJ would take it upon themselves to go after parents that would go to school board meetings? And shouldn’t we know where the taxpayers’ money is being spent?”

“I call that accountability and that’s a responsibility for Congress regardless of whose ever party is in the White House.”

“We need to make sure we get our nation back on track and that’s what the Commitment to America does. It is a plan for a new direction. An economy that’s strong, a nation that is safe, a future that’s built on freedom and a government that’s accountable. That is our focus,” McCarthy said as he concluded the interview laying out a clear GOP plan if they win the House tomorrow.
