Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida recently announced that most of the looters that were arrested after the devastating hurricane were illegal immigrants and said he would like to “drag them out by the collars and send them back to where they came from.”

In a recent press conference, DeSantis announced “We’ve had four looters that were arrested … and they need to be brought to justice.  But you know, three of the four are illegal aliens.”

“And so these are people that are foreigners, they’re illegally in our country — and not only that, they tried to loot and ransack in the aftermath of a natural disaster,” said the Governor. “I mean, they should be prosecuted, but they need to be sent back to their home country. They should not be here at all.”

“If I could, I would take those three looters, I would drag them out by the collars and I would send them back to where they came from,” he said to a crowd that applauded.

In Lee County Florida, three men and on woman are accused of burglary of a structure which was unoccupied while a state of emergency was in effect.

On Thursday, Omar Mejia Ortiz, 33, Valerie Celeste Salcedo Mena, 26, Brandon Mauricio Araya, 20, and Steve Eduardo Sanchez Araya, also 20, were all taken into custody and arrested. Ortiz was charged with petit larceny and the others were charged with Grand Theft.

The Lee County Sheriffs Office released an arrest report which showed they were allegedly stealing liqour from a bar which was severely damaged during Hurricane Ian. The bar’s owner notified police and pointed out the thieves, whom were carrying approximately 17 bottles of alcohol.

In the aftermath of the hurricane, DeSantis issued dire warnings to any would-be looters, saying  “Floridians’ right to defend themselves and their homes will be honored.”
