Democrat James Talarico, now the party’s nominee for the Texas U.S. Senate race, continues to draw attention for his 2023 declaration of affection for “trans children” — a remark that many found unsettling coming from an elected official, according to Breitbart.
During an appearance on A Superbloom Podcast hosted by actress Candice King of The Vampire Diaries fame, Talarico was asked to name something he loved beyond family and friends. Without hesitation, he said, “I love — and I’m just going to say this because it’s on my mind — the trans children who showed up yesterday at the State Capitol to advocate for their humanity. They shouldn’t have to, but it was an inspiration to watch.” His words came right as Texas lawmakers worked to protect minors by banning medical sex changes for underage individuals — a law he openly opposed.
Talarico, a state representative since 2018 and a Presbyterian seminary student, has consistently supported radical transgender policies and has gone so far as to suggest that God is “non-binary.” In 2021, he lamented that the Texas Capitol was a “hostile environment for our trans neighbors” and proudly became the first legislator in the building’s history to print pronouns on official business cards — a move many regarded as showy virtue signaling rather than public service.
His social agenda doesn’t stop there. Talarico also champions abortion. After the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in 2022, he urged President Joe Biden to use federal buildings in red states as makeshift abortion clinics — a suggestion critics called both reckless and morally tone-deaf.
Just last week, Talarico defeated Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) in the Democratic Senate primary. On the Republican side, Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton are heading to a runoff, with the GOP still waiting to see whether former President Donald Trump will endorse a candidate.
