Hunter Biden’s lawyers are seeking documents from former President Donald Trump and other former Justice Department officials claiming “incessant, improper and partisan pressure” against Hunter for years.

Abbe Lowell and his legal team represent Hunter Biden and asked U.S. District Judge Maryellen Norieka to review records from numerous former Trump Justice Department officials including Attorney General Bill Barr, acting Deputy AG Richard Donoghue, and acting AG Jeffrey Rosen because the lawyers claim Hunter Biden was persecuted politically from the top down.

Hunter’s lawyers filed the paperwork for subpoenas of any documents in which Hunter Biden was discussed.  In 2018, an investigation into Hunter Biden began under the Trump administration where his taxes were subject to review and an illegal gun purchase.  This all comes after the “sweetheart deal” from the Justice Department was denied by the judge and Hunter is forced to go to trial.

In the court filings, Hunter’s legal team argue there were “certain instances that appear to suggest incessant, improper, and partisan pressure applied” by former President Trump and the Justice Department.

“The initial investigation was born out of a wider probe into Mr. Biden’s taxes and foreign business dealings. Public reporting reveals certain instances that appear to suggest incessant, improper, and partisan pressure applied by then-President Trump to Messrs. Rosen, Donoghue, and Barr in relation to an investigation of Mr. Biden,” the lawyers claim.

“Mr. Biden seeks specific information from three former DOJ officials and the former President that goes to the heart of his defense that this is, possibly, a vindictive or selective prosecution arising from an unrelenting pressure campaign beginning in the last administration, in violation of Mr. Biden’s Fifth Amendment rights under the Constitution.”

“It is clear no measure of charges against [Hunter] Biden will ever be enough to appease Chairman Comer and Smith and their MAGA allies. As anyone can readily tell, it is not just pressure from within the Trump-era Executive Branch that is the problem; it is also incessant, unrelenting outside interference from congressional Republicans and their allies in the prosecutorial process,” the lawyers wrote.

The filing is seeking subpoenas for All personal records (including diaries, journals, memoirs, memoranda, or notes) from the relevant time period discussing or concerning Hunter Biden, including, but not limited to, reference to any formal or informal decision, discussion, or request to investigate or prosecute Hunter Biden.”
