The Biden administration will declare a national emergency Thursday to combat the growing Monkeypox outbreak.
Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra confirmed the measure during an exchange with journalists.

“I want to make an announcement today I will be declaring a public health emergency on monkeypox,” Becerra said during a call with reporters.
“We’re prepared to take our response to the next level in addressing this virus and we urge every American to take monkeypox seriously.”
The virus has infected roughly 6,600 Americans since the outbreak began in May.
