Education Secretary Miguel Cardona is facing pressure to resign after a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) revealed he solicited the now famous controversial letter from the National School Boards Association which compared parents to domestic terrorists.

Parents Defending Education obtained an email exchange through a FOIA request which details the Secretary’s salacious involvement. An October 5 email indicates Cardona actually requested the NSBA letter.

In the October email, NSBA Secretary-Treasurer Kristi Swett noted NSBA interim CEO Chip Slaven “told the officers he was writing a letter to provide information to the White House, from a request by Secretary Cardona.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Education denied Cardona requested the NSBA letter, despite the very clear evidence. “While the Secretary did not solicit a letter from NSBA, to understand the views and concerns of stakeholders, the Department routinely engages with students, teachers, parents, district leaders and education associations.”

The NSBA letter gave credence to the Biden administration’s Department of Justice for directing the FBI and U.S. attorney’s offices to investigate parents who protest or refute school boards as “threats of violence.”

It has previously been reported that the NSBA was in contact with the White House and the Justice Department in the weeks leading up to its public release of the letter. The new information reveals it all could have started with Secretary Cardona who requested the letter in the first place.

Among calls for his resignation was Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) who tweeted, “Stunning. The original source of the letter lobbying the Biden admin to use the Patriot Act to target parents as domestic terrorists? THE BIDEN ADMIN ITSELF. Biden Education Secretary: in effect, ‘Please ask us to treat Moms & Dads as terrorists.”

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) tweeted a similar message: “The truth comes out. Woke @SecCardona asked @NSBAPublicEd to write the letter @TheJusticeDept used to mobilize the FBI to begin treating parents like domestic terrorists. Cardona should resign.”
