New York City’s sanctuary city lunacy has reached a new low. Roman Ceron Amatitla, a 38-year-old Mexican illegal alien, allegedly set fire to a Queens apartment building that killed four innocent people including a three-year-old child. He watched victims burn and jump from windows while casually sipping a beer. Now NYC officials are REFUSING to hand him over to ICE, according to Fox News.

This wasn’t some accident or crime of passion. Prosecutors say Amatitla randomly selected the Flushing building, entered and exited multiple times, then bought beer and matches before lighting paper on fire and tossing it onto trash near a stairwell. As smoke engulfed the building, this monster stayed to watch the carnage unfold. Queens DA Melinda Katz called it an “act of mass murder.” That’s exactly what it was.

But here’s where it gets even more infuriating. ICE requested that New York City corrections officials hold Amatitla so immigration authorities could take custody. The city’s response? Absolutely not. Thanks to their radical sanctuary policies, NYC is choosing to protect a mass murderer over innocent Americans. “This monster set fire to a building and watched as innocent people, including a three-year-old, burned to death,” DHS acting assistant secretary Lauren Bis told Fox News. “New York City sanctuary politicians REFUSE to cooperate with ICE and are choosing to RELEASE this MURDERER onto New York streets.”

The numbers don’t lie about New York’s deadly sanctuary obsession. DHS reports that the city has released nearly 7,000 illegal immigrants since January, including suspects in 29 homicides, over 2,500 assaults, and hundreds of other violent crimes. Another 7,000 illegals with active ICE detainers remain in custody for equally horrific offenses. Liberal politicians like Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul are literally choosing criminal aliens over American citizens.

This madness has to stop. When sanctuary cities protect arsonists who burn children alive, they’ve lost all moral authority. New Yorkers deserve leaders who put public safety first, not political virtue signaling. Every day these policies remain in place, more innocent lives hang in the balance while dangerous criminals walk free among us.
