A transgender high school athlete who caused controversy in the sport of girls’ volleyball, then transitioned to track and field competition, where they dominated and beat out biological women for winning medals.
AB Hernandez, a biological male from Riverside County, competed in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 preliminaries on Saturday and finished atop the field in the long jump, high jump, and triple jump against female competitors.
In earlier volleyball competitions, some female athletes reportedly chose not to participate rather than compete against Hernandez. The senior athlete turned in a triple jump mark of 42 feet, 4 inches at the meet hosted at Yorba Linda High School, finishing well ahead of the runner-up, who recorded 39 feet, 7 1/2 inches.
In the long jump, Hernandez posted a distance of 20 feet, 4 1/4 inches, more than a foot farther than the second-place result of 19 feet, 1 1/2 inches. The third-place competitor reached 18 feet, 7 inches.
Hernandez also shared first place in the high jump with Reese Hogan after both athletes cleared 5 feet, 2 inches. Outside the event venue, demonstrators gathered for a “Save Girls’ Sports” rally organized by former NCAA athlete Sophia Lorey.
Moms for Liberty member Beth Bourne, whose daughter previously competed against transgender athletes, criticized California leadership over the policy, reports The New York Post.
She told The Post: “Males shouldn’t invade girls’ sports and spaces. He could have easily changed these policies, girls and women should have their own sports.”
She continued: “This is going to be Newsom’s legacy, that he was someone who said one thing and did another.”
Bourne previously drew attention last October during a Davis Joint Unified School District board meeting when she appeared in a bikini to argue that women deserve privacy in locker rooms.
Sonja Shaw, a Republican candidate for California State Superintendent, also condemned the state’s approach to transgender participation in women’s athletics.
She told The Post: “How much longer is California going to allow our daughters to suffer? Gavin Newsom is a spineless bully to California’s daughters.
“He whispers ‘it’s unfair’ behind closed doors while kneeling to the gender cult and his trans lobbyist masters who keep him and the Sacramento cartel in power.
“We demand the immediate restoration of sex-based categories in every single sport, ironclad protection of girls’ locker rooms and safe spaces, and an end to this sick, irreversible experimentation on confused kids.”
She added: “The majority of Californians agree with us. It’s time to take it to the polls and end this madness.
“Boys are stealing our daughters’ places! Justice for our daughters is not optional. History will record who stood up and who sold out.”
