Texas Governor Greg Abbott spoke with Joe ‘Pags’ Pagliarulo Wednesday just hours after a draft Supreme Court opinion leaked to the press, saying abortion should be regulated by elected officials – not judges.
“Somebody leaked a draft opinion that says the Supreme Court is ready to overturn Roe V Wade. Give me your thoughts on this?” asked Pags.
“Roe V Wade will be stricken down because abortion should be handled by the states. Texas is a pro-life state. This is going to be a monumental decision that comes out. It will be transformative on this issue,” said Abbott.
“The Constitution is not difficult to read,” added Pagliarulo. “It says anything not covered in this document must be decided by the states.”
“Abortion is not in the Constitution, so it is in the hands of the states,” explained the Governor.

This version of the Supreme Court will eventually find a way to overturn Roe v. Wade. This leak may be sensationalized bait, but I have no doubt that it will happen, and the right of a woman to choose what to do with her body will no longer be protected on a federal level. When this happens, I believe that Texas will outlaw abortion.
Some Texas lawmakers are already arguing to allow women who receive an abortion to be charged with assault or homicide. I am no lawyer, but the “murder of a child less than 15 years of age” qualifies as capital murder, and is therefore eligible for the death penalty. Will Texas execute women who get abortions? If not, these crimes carry prison sentences of years. Could you send a single mother to prison, forcing her children into a deeply flawed child care system? Or making a father a single parent?
Just think of how you would feel if it was your daughter, your wife, your niece who was in this impossible situation. Would you turn away from her and allow the state to decide her fate? Maybe that’s what it will take for you to finally realize that the government is going too far invading our privacy…
