Joe ‘Pags’ Pagliarulo discussed the ongoing debate surrounding Elvis in America, saying the ‘King of Rock’ did a “ton for Black Artists” in the United States and around the world.

“The question comes up a lot about Elvis’ relationship with the Black Community. Here’s what I believe is the answer: He was the perfect storm at the right time. A poor kid from Mississippi. The family was always in the lower income neighborhoods. They were always in the same neighborhoods of Black People,” said Pags.

“Here’s a kid who’s growing up surrounded by people playing Blues, R&B, he’s sneaking into Baptist Churches,” he explained.

“Here’s a guy who grew up in the neighborhood, went to church, his first music was gospel. That’s who Elvis was. It didn’t matter he had white skin,” concluded Pags.
