Tom Behrends was the CSM that replaced Tim Walz who retired before getting the CSM rank (E-9) and before his unit was sent to Iraq.
Tom has first-hand experience and tells the truth of what happened.
“The Walz campaign said he retired as a CSM. Is that true?” asked Joe Pags.
“That is not true. He retired and was reduced to Master Sergeant,” explained Behrends. “The requirements are that you finish the Sergeants Major Academy. That’s one requirement. The other is that you stay in for two years and you serve your country.”
“When he got selected in the fall of 2004, he never fulfilled those requirements,” he added. “He literally snuck out the door and tried to make the paperwork go away.”
