According to Fox News Digital, Pelosi, D-Calif., stayed stone-silent as reporters repeatedly pressed her on the misdemeanor hit-and-run charge just filed against her 86-year-old husband, Paul. Asked point-blank whether she thought the charge was fair, she said nothing and kept moving toward her car. For a woman who never misses a camera when she’s lecturing the rest of us about “our democracy,” the sudden shyness was something to behold.
The charge itself reads like a tabloid item. Prosecutors in the Napa County District Attorney’s Office say Paul Pelosi clipped a parked Tesla on July 3 and simply drove off in his Maserati convertible without leaving so much as a note — a violation of California law. The getaway didn’t last long. The Maserati broke down about a half-mile later, and when deputies found him, he claimed he knew he had hit “something” but wasn’t sure what, and had “planned” to return. He now faces up to six months in county jail and a $1,000 fine, plus an infraction for an unsafe turn, and authorities have asked him to submit to a behind-the-wheel driving evaluation.
If this all sounds familiar, it should. This is the same Paul Pelosi who pleaded guilty in 2022 to driving under the influence after plowing his car into an oncoming Jeep and injuring the driver. The New York Times has reported he was also behind the wheel of the 1957 crash that killed his own 19-year-old brother, though a jury cleared him of wrongdoing. A record like that would strip most people of their driving privileges — and dominate weeks of cable coverage — if the last name were, say, Trump.
Notice, too, what else Pelosi would not discuss. Fox reporters also asked her about her vote — alongside more than 100 House Democrats — for Rep. Thomas Massie’s amendment to cut $3.3 billion in aid to Israel. That amendment failed 314-104, with Massie the lone Republican backing it. On that, as on her husband, the famously talkative Pelosi suddenly had nothing to say.
