California Democrats promised the world to wildfire victims. They delivered bureaucratic hell instead. A devastating new report reveals that just 34 homes have been rebuilt in Pacific Palisades and Altadena 15 months after devastating wildfires destroyed thousands of properties. This is what happens when progressive politicians make big promises but can’t deliver basic government services.

The numbers don’t lie, according to the New York Post. Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass boldly claimed they would deliver recovery “faster than ever before” after the January 2025 fires that killed 31 people and flattened over 16,000 structures. Instead, fewer than half of the nearly 10,000 destroyed properties have even bothered applying for rebuilding permits. Why would they when the system is completely broken?

Here’s the reality these families face every single day. Construction costs have skyrocketed to between $450 and $1,500 per square foot while insurance companies play games and city bureaucrats create endless red tape. “It’s like being stuck in a spider web,” one frustrated Altadena resident told reporters. These are hardworking Americans who just want to rebuild their lives, and California’s government is failing them completely.

The comparison to other disasters makes this failure even more embarrassing. Cities like Santa Rosa and Paradise, with far fewer resources than Los Angeles, rebuilt faster after their catastrophic fires. Even disaster experts are admitting there’s “certainly no chance” of the fast recovery Newsom promised. Meanwhile, Newsom’s spokesperson is already making excuses, claiming each disaster is “unique” while passing the buck to local officials.

This is exactly why Americans are fed up with failed Democratic leadership in California. While politicians make grand speeches, real families are trapped in permit purgatory for over a year. These people deserve leaders who can actually get things done, not more empty promises from the same failed system.
