Just when you thought James Talarico couldn’t be more out of touch, and a poor candidate for Texas, video shows he once pushed veganism hard in Texas. The previously recorded video featuring Talarico has resurfaced, drawing renewed attention to remarks he made about diet and climate policy. Talarico, a Democratic candidate in Texas’s U.S. Senate race, is seen in the 2022 clip advocating for reduced meat consumption as part of efforts to address what he describes as an “existential” climate crisis.

In the footage, Talarico links dietary choices to broader environmental and ethical concerns. “We have, I think, heard more and more of issues of animal welfare,” Talarico said. “I think not just because it’s the right thing to do and the moral thing to do, but it’s also—as all of you know—necessary to fight climate change” reports Townhall.

Side note, Talarico is also wearing a face mask, the telltale of liberals during the two plus years post covid. He then goes on to claim urgency of the issue, telling an audience in Texas: “It is now existential that we try to reduce our meat consumption and that we try to respect animals in all aspects of society.” He also highlighted a campaign decision aligned with those views, adding, “I am proud to say that our campaign has officially become a non-meat campaign…we are only buying vegan products from our local vegan businesses.”

The resurfaced clip sparked criticism and intense mocking from commentators online. Specifically, it was highlighted that such messaging may not resonate broadly in Texas, a state known for its strong barbecue culture and significant cattle industry.

Brandon Gill responded to the released video writing, “James Talarico wants to represent Texas but is anti-meat, anti-gun, anti-oil, thinks white people are inherently racist, that God is ‘non-binary,’ and that the Bible justifies abortion.”

“Vegetarian candidates for office don’t win U.S. Senate seats in Texas. This will be more fun than I ever imagined. Talarico is DOA” posted Tom Slocum.
