Former Vice President Kamala Harris erupted in a profanity-filled tirade against President Donald Trump during an appearance on Jon Stewart’s The Weekly Show podcast Thursday, criticizing him for moving forward with costly White House ballroom renovations amid a government shutdown.
“Are you f–king kidding me?” Harris exclaimed, accusing Trump of ignoring the plight of struggling Americans while focusing on lavish improvements. “This guy wants to create a ballroom for his rich friends while completely turning a blind eye to the fact that babies are going to starve when the SNAP benefits end in just hours from now. Come on.”
Visibly frustrated, Harris continued, “I’m not going to be distracted by, ‘Oh, does the guy have a big f–king hammer!?’ What about those babies!?”
The best part of the exchange is that the former vice president’s outburst came in response to a question completely unrelated. Harris was asked whether Democrats could learn from Trump’s aggressive governing style. Harris rejected the comparison outright, saying, “It’s important we not conflate disruption with destruction.”
Trump’s ballroom expansion project—estimated to cost $300 million—has sparked backlash from Democratic lawmakers, who argue it symbolizes misplaced priorities during an economic crisis.
The White House, however, has stated that the renovations are being fully funded through private donations rather than taxpayer money, write the New York Post.
Despite the controversy, it was Senate Democrats who voted for the 13th time this week to maintain the government shutdown. Senate Majority Leader John Thune told The Post that there was a straightforward solution available to restore funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), ensuring millions of Americans would not lose access to food aid.
